Former White Bear Lake, Minnesota State star agrees to one-year deal

The Minnesota Wild signed free agent forward Ryan Carter to a one-year, two-way contract the team announced Monday afternoon.

Carter, a former All-State selection at White Bear Lake Area High School and standout at Minnesota State University, played in 62 games with the New Jersey Devils last season. He scored seven goals, assisted on three others and totaled 35 penalty minutes playing primarily a fourth-line role.

An undrafted free agent, Carter left MSU following his sophomore season in 2006 and signed a free agent contract with Anaheim. He won a Stanley Cup with the Ducks in 2006-07, accumulating no points in four playoff games.

Carter played in parts of four seasons with Anaheim before being traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2011. He signed with the Devils as a free agent that summer, where he has spent the last three seasons.

In 360 NHL games, Carter has 31 goals, 37 assists and 341 penalty minutes. He’s also scored seven goals and 12 points in 43 career playoff contests.
