This Day in MN Hockey History: Oct. 2

1925:  Former NHL coach and general manager Wren Blair born in Lindsay, Ont.  Blair served as coach and general manager with the Minnesota North Stars starting in 1967-68.

1957:  Former NHL defenseman Gordie Roberts born in Detroit, Mich.  Roberts played in the NHL 1979-80 thru 1993-94 with Hartford, the Minnesota North Stars, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Boston, and later became an assistant coach with Phoenix.

1968:  Former NHL defenseman Link Gaetz born in Vancouver, B.C.  Gaetz played in the NHL 1988-89 through 1991-92 with San Jose and the Minnesota North Stars.

1978:  The Minnesota North Stars faced off against their NHL counterparts in fall exhibition games vs the WHA in games played from 72-78.  The North Stars-2 vs. Edmonton Oilers-4 was played on this date.

1979:  Minnesota North Stars signed goaltender Jean-Louis Levasseur as a free agent.

1995:  St. Louis Blues acquired Paul Broten from Dallas in exchange for Guy Carbonneau.

1999:  Tampa Bay Lightning signed Ben Clymer as a free agent.

2010:  Minnesota Wild signed free agent goaltender Jose Theodore.
