This Day in MN Hockey History: Oct. 30

1947: Former North Stars right winger Danny Lawson born in Toronto, Ont.

1974: J.P. Parise scored a goal and an assist and Jude Drouin added two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 3-3 tie against the Bruins at Boston.

1975: Stan Gilbertson had three assists as the Capitals won 6-2 against the Scouts, at Kansas City.

1981: NY Rangers purchased Tom Younghans from the Minnesota North Stars.

1982: Tom McCarthy scored twice to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, at the Met Center.

1985: Denis Savard scored a goal and added two assists as the Black Hawks won 6-5, at Minnesota. Brian Bellows had two goals and an assist for the North Stars.

1986: Devils’ Aaron Broten scored two goals, including the winning goal at 4:22 of overtime and added two assists as New Jersey won 7-6 over the visiting Islanders. Mark Johnson also had two goals and two assists for the Devils.

1990: Calgary Flames won 9 games in the month of October for the first time in franchise history, when they beat the visiting New Jersey Devils 6-3. Joel Otto scored twice in the second period to give him 100 career NHL goals.

1996: Playing in his 1,000th career NHL game, Phil Housley picked up an assist (in a 4-2 Caps’ win over the Flyers) to move into 5th place on the career list for defensemen. Housley’s 959th career point moved him ahead of Larry Robinson.

1998: Florida rookie Mark Parrish scored four goals (a Panthers’ team record) including his first career hat trick in a 7-3 win at Chicago. Ray Whitney assisted on three of Parrish’s goals.

2000: Florida’s Bret Hedican set a team record for defensemen with 2 power play goals in the 1st period, Ray Whitney tied a team record with 4 assists (and another record with 3 assists in the 1st period) in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Devils at New Jersey.

2001: Darby Hendrickson scored two goals and added an assist for his 100th career point as the Minnesota Wild beat the Predators 4-2 at Nashville.
