1967: Former NHL defenseman Neil Wilkinson born in Selkirk, Man. Wilkinson played in the NHL 1989-90 through 1998-99 with the Minnesota North Stars, San Jose, Chicago, Winnipeg and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
1976: The US Hockey Hall of Fame enshrined it’s fourth-year members since opening in 1973 on this date in Eveleth, MN. Inducted were: Administrators: Robert Ridder. Players: William Cleary & John Mayasich.
1982: Gil Perreault scored his 15th career hat trick and added two assists, one of which came on rookie Phil Housley’s first NHL goal, to lead the Sabres to a 9-2 win over the Capitals at Washington.
1982: Minnesota’s Dino Ciccarelli scored his 5th career hat trick to lead the North Stars to an 8-4 win against Calgary.
1982: The US Hockey Hall of Fame enshrined it’s tenth-year members since opening in 1973 on this date in Eveleth, MN. Inducted were: Administrator: Calvin Marvin Coach: William Stewart.
1986: Dino Ciccarelli became just the second player in NHL history to start a season with three straight multiple point games when he scored twice for the Minnesota North Stars in a 5-3 loss to the visiting Boston Bruins.
1987: Dave Christian scored his 200th NHL career goal in the Capitals’ 6-4 win over the visiting Hartford Whalers.
1989: New Jersey Devils traded Tom Kurvers to Toronto in exchange for Toronto’s first round choice in 1991 Entry Draft. The Devils later used the pick to select Scott Niedermayer.
1994: Minnesota Moose of the IHL won their first game in franchise history after starting their inaugural season 0-5 in a 6-1 win over the Chicago Wolves on the road.
1998: Washington Capitals acquired right wing Tom Chorske and a 1999 eighth-round draft pick from the New York Islanders for a 1999 sixth-round draft pick.
2001: Rookie Toby Petersen scored his first career hat trick as the Penguins won in coach Rick Kehoe’s debut, a 5-2 victory against the visiting Ottawa Senators. Penguins scored four goals on nine shots in the second period.
2001: Minnesota Wild tied the visiting San Jose Sharks 3-3 to improve their season record to 3-0-3, the best start ever by any second-year expansion team in NHL history. Marian Gaborik led the scoring with a goal and two assists.
2003: Martin St. Louis and Jassen Cullimore scored 25 seconds apart in the second period, and Ben Clymer picked up three assists to lead the Lightning to a 5-1 win over the visiting Phoenix Coyotes.
2008: Minnesota’s Mikko Koivu had a goal and tied a franchise record with four assists in a 6-2 win over the Panthers, in Florida. Antti Miettinen had two goals and an assist, becoming the first player ever to score in each of his first 3 games with the Wild.
