1966: The DECC Ice Arena opened on this date in Duluth, MN with the inaugural game played between the UMD Bulldogs-8 vs. University of Minnesota Gophers-1.
1967: North Stars goaltender Cesare Maniago set a franchise record for most saves in a game, with 51 in 5-2 loss to the Rangers in New York.
1972: Danny Grant scored a goal and two assists and Dennis Hextall added three assists to lead the North Stars to a 5-1 win over the Black Hawks at Chicago.
1976: Former Wild player Petr Sykora born in Plzen, Czech. Sykora has played in the NHL since 1995-96.
1978: MN North Stars set a franchise record for most penalty minutes in a period, with 85 in the second period of a 9-2 loss at Buffalo.
1983: Brian Bellows scored the winner at 2:53 of OT and added two assists, while Dino Ciccarelli scored a goal and three assists as the Minnesota North Stars recorded the 300th home win in franchise history, 8-7 over the Winnipeg Jets.
1984: New York Islanders traded goaltender Roland Melanson to the Minnesota North Stars in exchange for Minnesota’s first round choice in the 1985 Entry draft (Brad Dalgarno).
1988: Edmonton’s Glenn Anderson scored four goals (tying a team record with 3 power play goals) and added an assist and Reed Larson had 4 assists as the Oilers beat Toronto 9-1 to extend their home unbeaten streak against the Maple Leafs to 15 games (11-0-4).
1991: Minnesota’s Mike Modano scored the 5,000th regular season goal allowed by the New York Islanders. It came in the North Stars 7-4 loss in the Islanders’ 20th NHL season.
1992: Rookie goaltender Robb Stauber improved his record to 6-0-1 as the Kings won 4-1 over the Blackhawks at the Forum. It was also the Kings’ 9th straight win at home.
1992: Minnesota’s Mike Craig scored just :13 after the start of the game, and Mike McPhee added three assists as the North Stars beat the Lightning 4-1 at Tampa Bay.
2002: Rookie defenseman Kurt Sauer picked up his first NHL point with an assist in the Mighty Ducks 3-2 loss in overtime to the Rangers at New York.
2002: Minnesota’s Sergei Zholtok scored a goal to give him 200 points in his NHL career; the milestone came during a 2-2 tie against the visiting Los Angeles Kings.
2003: Despite being outshot 40-28 by the Penguins, Antti Laaksonen scored twice in first period (becoming the 3rd player to get 100 points with Minnesota) and Marian Gaborik scored on a penalty shot for a 6-2 win at Pittsburgh.
2005: Rookie Kurtis Foster became the first player in Minnesota history to score his first two career goals in his debut with the Wild and Mikko Koivu tied a rookie record with three assists in a 4-2 win over the visiting Nashville Predators.
2009: Erik Johnson scored just 17 seconds into overtime to give the Blues a 3-2 win over the visiting Phoenix Coyotes.
2010: Minnesota’s Miko Koivu tied the game with 1:23 left in regulation, Jose Theodore made 41 saves, and John Madden scored at 4:18 of overtime to lead the Wild to a 4-3 win at Detroit.
2011: Winnipeg’s Dustin Byfuglien tied franchise record for defensemen with three power play points (a goal and two assists) to lead the team to a 6-4 win over the visiting Flyers.
