1957: Former NHL defenseman Peter Hayek born in Minneapolis, MN. Hayek played in the NHL 1981-82 with the Minnesota North Stars.
1971: Minnesota’s 39-year old left wing Dean Prentice scored twice, including the 350th of his 19-year NHL career as the North Stars won 5-1, at Pittsburgh. Prentice moved into 12th place in the all-time NHL scoring list with the tally.
1972: The Minnesota Fighting Saints franchise 1st recorded shorthanded goal was scored by Terry Ryan against the Quebec Nordiques of the WHA.
1977: Pierre Jarry had four assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 7-4 win over the Penguins at the Met Center.
1977: Defenseman Reed Larson scored two goals and two assists in the Red Wings’ 10-1 win over the St. Louis Blues, at the Olympia.
1981: NHL player Stephane Veilleux born in Beaureville, Que. Veilleux has played in the NHL since 2002-03 with the Minnesota Wild, Tampa Bay and New Jersey.
1982: Minnesota North Stars set a team record with four power play goals in the second period and tied a record with 5 power play goals in the game, an 8-3 win at Los Angeles. Rookie Brian Bellows and Gordie Roberts each had a goal and 2 assists for the Stars.
1983: Buffalo defenseman Mike Ramsey scored the Sabres’ first ever regular season overtime goal, in a 6-5 win over the Jets, in Winnipeg. It came just :17 into overtime.
1993: Paul Holmgren resigned as coach of the Hartford Whalers and named assistant General Manager Pierre McGuire as the new head coach while Holmgren continued as the General Manager.
2001: Minnesota’s Brad Brown surpassed 500 career penalty minutes and set a team record for defensemen with 27 PIM in a 8-3 loss in Detroit.
2002: Dwayne Roloson recorded his 8th career shutout as the Wild outshot the visiting Washington Capitals 31-17 for a 1-0 victory.
2006: Minnesota came back from a three-goal deficit for the first time in team history to win a game, to beat the Predators 7-6 in a shootout in Nashville, after trailing 6-3 in the second period.
2008: Anaheim’s Jonas Hiller made 29 saves for his first career shutout and Bret Hedican scored his first goal as a member of the Ducks in a 2-0 win over the visiting L.A. Kings.
