1936: Former North Stars center Len Lunde born in Campbell River, B.C. Lunde played in the NHL 1958-59 through 1970-71.
1938: Former North Stars defenseman Wayne Hillman born in Kirkland Lake, Ont. Hillman played in the NHL 1960-61 through 1972-73.
1949: Montreal Canadiens’ goalie Bill Durnan and Black Hawks’ Frank Brimsek dueled to a 0-0 scoreless tie in a game played at Chicago. It was Brimsek’s 37th career shutout and the 29th for Durnan.
1968: Claude Larose and Danny O’Shea each scored a goal and added two assists to lead the North Stars to a 4-3 win against the Flyers, in Minnesota. Jim Johnson had two goals and an assist for Philadelphia.
1973: Minnesota’s forward Danny Grant set a franchise record by scoring the North Stars’ fifth straight goal, over a three game period. The record came in a 5-2 loss at Pittsburgh.
1974: Fred Stanfield scored his second career hat trick (and his first with Minnesota) and added an assist in the North Stars’ 7-4 win against Detroit, at the Met Center.
1980: Winnipeg rookie Dave Christian scored twice and added two assists as the Jets tied 5-5, at Boston.
1984: Neal Broten picked up three assists as the Minnesota North Stars tied 3-3 with the Capitals at Washington.
1986: New York Rangers traded Bob Brooke to the Minnesota North Stars for Curt Giles and Tony McKegney.
1987: Dino Ciccarelli became the leading goal scorer in Minnesota North Stars’ history, recording his 267th and 268th career goals in a 5-4 win at Buffalo.
1990: Brian Bellows scored once and took 9 shots on goal for the Minnesota North Stars in a 4-1 loss vs Pittsburgh.
2001: Minnesota’s Marian Gaborik scored his first career hat trick on 8 shots as the Wild set a team record for most shots in a home game, with 39 in a 4-2 win over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers.
2003: Minnesota Wild claimed center Jason Wiemer off waivers from the New York Islanders.
2006: NHL Hockey Hall of Fame inducted its newest members: Players: Patrick Roy and Dick Duff, Coach: Herb Brooks, and Builder: Harley Hotchkiss.
2008: Rookie defenseman Alex Goligoski scored in the sixth round of the shootout (his first career shootout) to give the Penguins a 5-4 win over the visiting Flyers.
2008: Niklas Backstrom had his 11th career shutout as the Wild tied an NHL record for largest shutout victory with all goals coming on the power play, in a 4-0 win over the visiting Phoenix Coyotes. Marek Zidlicky had 2 goals and an assist.
2009: Kyle Okposo picked up an assist then scored the game winning goal with 14.4 seconds remaining in overtime to give the Islanders a 4-3 win in Carolina, and sending the Hurricanes to their 14th straight loss (0-10-4).
2010: Tomas Vanek scored twice including the game winner 4:00 into overtime and Jordan Leopold picked up three assists give the Sabres a 3-2 win over the visiting Washington Capitals.
