1939: Bill Thoms became the first player in NHL history to score in 1-0 win against the team he started the season with, as Chicago beat the visiting Maple Leafs. Mike Karakas had his 20th career shutout for the Black Hawks.
1966: Former NHL defenseman Emanuel Viveiros born in St. Albert, Alta. Viveiros played in the NHL 1985-86 through 1987-88 with the Minnesota North Stars.
1983: Tom McCarthy scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 4-1 win over the visiting Chicago Black Hawks.
1984: Phil Housley scored a goal and added two assists as the Sabres won 4-3 over the visiting Montreal Canadiens. It was the third straight of a team-record 10 game winning streak for the Sabres.
1985: Phil Housley had three assists as Buffalo tied 4-4 with the visiting Hartford Whalers. Sabres tied the game with two goals in the final minute of play.
1987: Neal Broten had three assists as the Minnesota North Stars won 5-4 in OT over the visiting Buffalo Sabres.
1991: Minnesota goalie Brian Hayward recorded his 8th (and final) career shutout as the North Stars won 3-0 over the Islanders at New York.
2002: Minnesota’s Jacques Lemaire became the 32nd man in history to coach 600 NHL games when the Wild beat the visiting Canadiens 4-2 for their first-ever victory over Montreal. Wes Walz led the scoring with two goals.
2011: Minnesota’s Jose Theodore recorded his 30th career shutout (and first as a member of the Wild) with a 4-0 victory at Pittsburgh.
