1917: Former NHL goalie Sam LoPresti born in Eveleth, Minnesota. LoPresti played in the NHL 1940-41 through 1941-42 with Chicago. LoPresti set an NHL record with 80 saves in a 3-2 loss at Boston in March 1941.
1940: Boston beat Chicago 5-0 in a penalty-free game played in Boston. Frank Brimsek recorded his 13th career shutout, while Mel Hill and Roy Conacher led the scoring with a goal and two assists apiece.
1949: Former NHL defenseman Mike Baumgartner born in Roseau, Minnesota. Baumgartner played in the NHL 1974-75 with Kansas City.
1971: Former NHL right winger Trent Klatt born in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Klatt played in the NHL 1991-92 through 2003-04 with the Minnesota North Stars, Dallas, the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver and Los Angeles.
1972: Former NHL left winger Chris Simon born in Wawa, Ont. Simon played in the NHL 1992-93 through 2007-08 with Quebec, Colorado, Washington, Chicago, the New York Rangers, Calgary, New York Islanders and the Minnesota Wild.
1973: Barry Gibbs and J.P. Parise represent the North Stars in the 1973 NHL All-Star game played in New York City.
1978: NHL goaltender Wade Dubielewicz born in Invermere, B.C. Dubielewicz has played in the NHL since 2003-04 with the New York Islanders, Columbus, and the Minnesota Wild.
1979: Mike Fidler scored twice and added two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-4 win against the Islanders, at New York.
1987: Dino Ciccarelli scored twice as the Minnesota North Stars tied 2-2 at Edmonton.
1988: UMD All-American center Huffer Christiansen familiar jersey #9 was retired by the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Men’s hockey team.
1990: Phil Housley scored the Sabres’ first ever shorthanded goal with the team two men short and Buffalo became just the second post-1967 expansion team to win 750 games, when they beat the Nordiques, 5-2 at Quebec.
1990: George and Gordon Gund request $15 Million in improvements to the Met Center and threaten a relocation of the franchise to the San Fransisco Bay Area.
2003: Mighty Ducks of Anaheim acquired defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh and left wing-defenseman Lance Ward from the Florida Panthers, in exchange for center Matt Cullen, defenseman Pavel Trnka and a fourth-round pick in 2003.
2006: Minnesota’s Marian Gaborik began a team-record 5 game goal scoring streak in a 5-4 loss to the visiting Detroit Red Wings.
2007: Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored 5 minutes into the first period and 10 minutes into the second period to lead the Wild to a 5-2 win over the visiting St. Louis Blues.
2008: Brian Rolston and Marian Gaborik scored :38 apart in the first two minutes of the second period to break a scoreless tie and lead the Wild to a 5-1 win over the visiting Anaheim Ducks.
2009: New Jersey’s Jamie Langenbrunner became the third player in NHL history to get OT game winners two nights in a row when he tied the game with :31 left in regulation, then scored again at 4:00 of overtime for a 4-3 win over the visiting Penguins.
2010: Branden Sutter and Matt Cullen scored in a :26 span in the third period and Cam Ward made 39 saves to lead the Hurricanes to a 4-2 win over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks.
2010: Mikko Koivu took 9 shots on goal for the Wild, but went scoreless in a 5-2 loss at San Jose.
