1958: Former NHL player Steve Christoff born in Richfield, MN. Christoff played in the NHL 1979-80 through 1983-84 with the Minnesota North Stars, Calgary and Los Angeles.
1961: Former NHL defenseman Chris Pryor born in St. Paul, MN. Pryor played in the NHL 1984-85 through 1989-90 with the Minnesota North Stars and the New York Islanders.
1969: Danny O’Shea scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 3-1 win against the Penguins at Pittsburgh.
1972: Danny Grant scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-3 win against the Kings at the Met Center.
1973: Simon Nolet scored twice and added an assist to lead the Flyers to a 4-4 tie against the Red Wings, at the Spectrum. Henry Boucha had a goal and two assists for Detroit.
1975: Montreal’s Larry Robinson scored the milestone 10,000th goal in franchise history and Ken Dryden recorded his 16th career shutout as the Canadiens beat the North Stars 7-0 at Minnesota, to extend their road unbeaten streak to 7-0-5.
1982: Dino Ciccarelli and Tim Young each scored twice and added an assist to lead the North Stars to an 8-4 win over the Black Hawks in Minnesota.
1983: Buffalo rookie Phil Housley tied a team record for defenseman by scoring his first career hat trick as the Sabres beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 at the Aud.
1989: Minnesota goalie Kari Takko started his first game in more than month and made 40 saves in a 7-2 North Stars’ win at New Jersey. Brian Bellows led the scoring with two goals and an assist.
1993: Defenseman Tom Kurvers scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Islanders to an 8-4 win against the Flyers, in Long Island.
1993: Ottawa’s Mike Peluso became the first player in team history to pick up 200 penalty minutes in one season, when he got 10 PIM in a 6-4 loss at Washington.
1996: New York Islanders obtained goaltender Damian Rhodes and Ken Belanger from Toronto, in exchange for future considerations.
1996: New York Islanders obtained Don Beaupre, Martin Straka and Bryan Berard from Ottawa, in exchange for Damian Rhodes and Wade Redden. The Islanders than traded Beaupre to Toronto.
2002: Minnesota’s Marian Gaborik set a team record for latest goal in regulation, when he scored with two seconds left in regulation to tie the game, a 3-2 overtime loss at Anaheim.
2003: Dwayne Roloson made 31 saves, and rookie Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Marian Gaborik each had a goal and an assist as the Wild won 2-1 over the Kings at Los Angeles.
2004: Minnesota’s Dwayne Roloson made 41 saves and defenseman Willie Mitchell picked up 17 penalty minutes in a 6-2 loss at Anaheim.
2010: The 4th annual, ‘Hockey Day Minnesota’ took place on this date. The outdoor games in 2010 were held in Hermantown, MN with Hopkins defeating Duluth Marshall 6-0. The second game on Hermantowns’ slushy outdoor ice was against the hometown Hawks from Hermantown vs. the Eagles from Eden Prairie. Eden Prairie, led by Kyle Rau, defeated Hermantown 4-3.
