1936: Chicago’s goalie, and Eveleth, MN native Mike Karakas recorded the 7th shutout of his rookie season in the Black Hawks’ 2-0 win against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
1969: Rookie Danny Grant scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 3-2 win over the Flyers at Philadelphia.
1974: In front of 4,500 people in Bismarck, ND, the St. Paul Vulcans become the first American junior hockey team to beat a Canadian Tier I junior club by defeating the New Westminster Bruins, 4-2.
1977: NHL right wing Mark Parrish born in Edina, MN. Parrish has played in the NHL since 1998-99 with Florida Panthers, the New York Islanders, Los Angeles, the Minnesota Wild, Dallas, Tampa Bay, and Buffalo.
1980: Harold Snepsts scored the only penalty-shot goal allowed by Gilles Meloche at Met Center.
1982: Hartford Whalers traded Rob McClanahan to the New York Rangers for Rangers’ 10th round pick, in 1983 Entry Draft.
1984: Goaltender Pat Riggin recorded his 6th career shutout, and Dave Christian had two assists in the Capitals’ 2-0 win against the Devils at New Jersey.
1985: Willi Plett and Dennis Maruk each scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-2 win over the Maple Leafs at Toronto.
1991: Dave Gagner scored a goal and four assists as the Minnesota North Stars were credited with the 250th road win in franchise history, 6-4 over the Nordiques at Quebec.
2002: Team World beat Team North America 8-5 at the 52nd NHL All Star Game, in Los Angeles. Eric Daze at two goals and an assist and was named the game’s MVP, and Mario Lemieux scored his 13th career All-Star Game goal, to tie Wayne Gretzky’s record.
2003: Atlanta’s Dany Heatley tied an All-Star Game record with 4 goals, then added one more in a shootout as the Western Conference beat the East 6-5 in the NHL All Star game in Sunrise, Florida, that ended in a shootout.
2004: Minnesota’s Dwayne Roloson recorded his 14th career shutout, and Wes Walz scored twice, including a penalty shot goal, as the Wild recorded their first home shutout against St. Louis, with a 4-0 win over the Blues.
2012: Greg Zanon scored the only goal of the game and Niklas Backstrom made 37 saves for his 25th career shutout as the Wild beat the Avalanche 1-0 in Colorado.
