1972: Let’s Play Hockey Newspaper was introduced to the Minnesota hockey landscape. Founded by the late Bob Utecht, former rink-side announcer of the MN North Stars, Let’s Play Hockey celebrated their 40th Anniversary in 2012.
1972: Goaltender Cesare Maniago recorded his 23rd career shutout as the North Stars extended their team-record home winning streak to 8 straight games, with a 7-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings.
1975: Minnesota North Stars traded Henry Boucha to the Kansas City Scouts in exchange for Scouts’ 2nd round pick in the 1978 Amateur Draft (Steve Christoff).
1978: Minnesota goaltender Gilles Meloche recorded his 13th career shutout in the North Stars’ 3-0 win over the Colorado Rockies at the Met Center.
1981: Minnesota’s Dino Ciccarelli scored his 4th career hat trick in the North Stars’ 6-6 tie against Montreal.
1982: Neal Broten scored twice and added four assists in the North Stars’ 9-6 win against the visiting Vancouver Canucks.
1984: Washington’s Bob Mason recorded the only shutout of his NHL career, and the Capitals’ first ever against Detroit, with a 4-0 win over the visiting Red Wings.
1986: Clark Gillies and Phil Housley each scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Sabres to a 5-5 tie at Detroit.
1988: N.Y. Rangers re-obtained defenseman Mark Hardy from the North Stars six months after trading him there. To get him back, they gave up Larry Bernard and a 1989 5th round pick.
1989: Shane Churla picked up 24 penalty minutes for the Minnesota North Stars in a 3-1 loss vs Detroit.
2003: Despite being outshot 32-19 by the visiting Calgary Flames, Manny Fernandez made 31 saves and Andrei Zyuzin scored a goal and added an assist in the second period to lead the Wild to a 2-1 victory.
2003: Phoenix Coyotes acquired defenseman Chris Dyment from the Minnesota Wild for defenseman Michael Schutte.
2006: Minnesota’s Mark Parrish became just the second Minnesota-born player to get a hat trick in a game in his own state, capped by the winning goal at 3:18 of overtime as the Wild won 5-4 against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks.
2010: Rangers’ rookie defenseman Michael Sauer scored his first career NHL goal – and it proved to be the game winner in a 5-3 victory at Ottawa.
2010: Marek Zidlicky became the 4th defenseman to score 100 points as a member of the Minnesota Wild; he reached the milestone with an assist in a 3-2 victory at Phoenix.
2011: Dustin Byfuglien scored just :34 into the game and Blake Wheeler picked up three assists to lead the Jets to a 4-2 win over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes.
