1938 : Boston’s Frankie Brimsek recorded his first career shutout, a 5-0 Bruins’ win at Chicago. It came in Brimsek’s second NHL game, and was the first of six shutouts in the next seven games for the rookie goalie.
1946: The infamous Johnny Mariucci (Blackhawks) vs. Jack Stewart ‘BlackJack’ (Red Wings) happened on this date in the final period of the game. The fighting later resumed in the penalty boxes and both players were sent to their respective dressing rooms. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
1981: St. Louis Blues traded Joe Micheletti and Dick Lamby to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Bill Baker.
1982: Dino Ciccarelli scored two goals and two assists, and Neal Broten had a goal and three assists in the North Stars’ 4-1 win against the Winnipeg Jets, in Minnesota.
1986: Minnesota’s Dino Ciccarelli tied a franchise record with four points (a goal and three assists) in the second period lead the North Stars to a 5-3 win at New Jersey.
1991: Minnesota North Stars picked up the 700th victory in franchise history, 5-2 over the visiting St. Louis Blues.
2009: Minnesota Wild won 5-4 in a shootout in Anaheim in the first game in NHL history where a game ended 4-4 in regulation with four different players each scoring twice (Minnesota’s Mikko Koivu & Antti Miettinen and Anaheim’s Joffrey Lupul & Bobby Ryan).
2009: Jamie Langenbrunner scored with :39 remaining in regulation to give the Devils a 3-2 win over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning.
2009: Mikko Koivu took 9 shots on goal for the Wild, scoring twice and adding an assist in a 5-4 shootout victory in Anaheim.
2010: Pittsburgh defenseman Paul Martin scored two unassisted goals, defenseman Deryk Engelland also scored unassisted and Marc-Andre Fleury improved to 10-0-1 in his last 11 starts the Penguins beat the Blue Jackets 7-2 in Columbus.
2011: Matt Cullen became the first Minnesota-born player to pick up three assists in a game for the Wild; he reached the milestone in a 5-3 victory at Anaheim.
2014: The 2014 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame induction ceremony and dinner took place in Minneapolis, MN honoring the 2014 Class inductees and Lester Patrick award winners to Eveleth, MN hockey shrine.
