This Day in MN Hockey History: Dec. 3

1960:  Former NHL defenseman Mike Ramsey born in Minneapolis, MN.  Ramsey played in the NHL 1979-80 thru 1996-97 with Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Detroit.  He later became an assistant coach with Buffalo and the Minnesota Wild.

1967:  Ray Cullen scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 4-3 win over the Black Hawks at Chicago.

1969:  Ray Cullen scored his first career NHL hat trick, and added an assist as the Minnesota North Stars tied 5-5 with Toronto, at the Met Center.

1975:  Former NHL defenseman Curtis Murphy born in Kerrobert, Sask.  Murphy played in the NHL 2002-03 with the Minnesota Wild.

1978:  Former NHL defenseman Tom Preissing born in Rosemount, MN.  Preissing played in the NHL 2003-04 through 2009-10 with San Jose, Ottawa, Los Angeles, and Colorado.

1983:  Dino Ciccarelli, Neal Broten and Brian Bellows each scored twice as the Minnesota North Stars won 6-2 against the Bruins, at Boston.

1985:  Tony McKegney scored his 4th career hat trick (and his first with Minnesota) and added an assist to lead the North Stars to a 9-2 win against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks.

1988:  Bob Brooke assisted on three shorthanded goals in the second period (including two by Neal Broten in 2:10) as the Minnesota North Stars won 4-2 against the Whalers, at Hartford.

1989 : Mike Gartner scored his 14th career hat trick (and his first with Minnesota) as the North Stars lost 6-5 to the Canucks, at Vancouver.

1991:  Minnesota North Stars named Mark Tinordi as their new team captain.

1992:  Minnesota North Stars extended their team-record road winning streak to 6 straight games, with a 4-2 win, at Detroit.

2003:  Manny Fernandez was in goal as the Minnesota Wild picked up their first shutout against the Oilers, a 1-0 victory in Edmonton.  It was his 9th career shutout.

2008:  Minnesota’s Eric Belanger scored his 100th career NHL goal, Andrew Brunette scored his 200th NHL goal and Niklas Backstrom recorded his third shutout of the season (12th of his career) in a 4-0 win over the visiting St. Louis Blues.

2009:  Carlo Colaiacovo scored a shorthanded goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game, then T.J. Oshie and Andy McDonald scored in the shootout to give the Blues a 3-2 win over the Sharks in San Jose.
