This Day in MN Hockey History: Dec. 26

1951:  Former NHL right winger Mark Heaslip born in Duluth, MN.  Heaslip played in the NHL 1976-77 through 1978-79 with the New York Rangers and Los Angeles.

1964:  Goaltender Ed Johnston recorded his 8th career shutout, Dean Prentice scored twice and Tom Williams picked up two assists as the Bruins won 2-0 over the Rangers at New York.

1967: Toronto traded J.P. Parise to the Minnesota North Stars along with Milan Marcetta, in exchange for Murray Hall, Ted Taylor, Len Lunde, Don Johns, Duke Harris and the loan of Carl Wetzel.

1968:  Bill Goldsworth set a Minnesota record with 26 PIM and Danny O’Shea scored twice and added two assists to lead the North Stars to a 4-4 tie, atLos Angeles.  Bill Flett had two goals and an assist for the Kings.

1973:  Goaltender Cesare Maniago recorded his 25th career shutout in the Minnesota North Stars’ 1-0 win over the NY Islanders at the Met Center.

1978:  Jean Potvin had three assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 6-4 win over the Blues at St. Louis.

1979:  Gilles Meloche recorded his 14th career shutout as the Minnesota North Stars extended their team-record home unbeaten streak to 8 games (6-0-2), with a 6-0 win over the Winnipeg Jets.  Steve Payne had his third career hat trick to lead the North Stars.

1981:  Steve Payne scored his 4th career hat trick and added an assist to lead the North Stars to a 6-3 win against St. Louis, in Minnesota.

1984:  Minnesota goaltender Don Beaupre recorded his first career NHL shutout as the North Stars won 4-0 over the Winnipeg Jets.

1987:  New Jersey’s Aaron Broten scored a goal and had two assists to become the first player to score 300 points as a Devil.  New Jersey lost 5-3 to the visiting New York Rangers.

1988:  Defenseman Phil Housley scored both goals as the Sabres came from behind to beat the Bruins 2-1.

1988:  Neal Broten scored a goal and added two assists to lead the North Stars to a 5-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets, in Minnesota.

1991:  Todd Elik had assists on all the goals, as the Minnesota North Stars beat the Jets, 3-2 at Winnipeg.

1992:  Russ Courtnall scored twice and added an assist to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-4 win over the Winnipeg Jets, at the Met Center.

1992:  Winnipeg’s Phil Housley began a team-record 14 game assist streak in the Jets’ 5-4 loss to the North Stars, at Minnesota.

2003:  Despite being outshot 40-24 by the Red Wings, Dwayne Roloson made 38 saves as the Wild tied 2-2 at Detroit.

2003:  Mark Parrish scored the winning goal at 1:25 of overtime and added an assist in the Islanders 4-3 win against the Devils at New Jersey.

2009:  Kyle Okposo set up two goals and then scored the winner 4:13 into overtime to give the Islanders a 3-2 win over the Rangers, in a game played at Madison Square Garden.

2009:  Guillaume Latendresse scored twice to give him four goals in four games with Minnesota as the Wild beat the visiting St. Louis Blues 4-3.

2010:  Jaroslav Halak recorded his 13th career shutout and David Backes scored twice to give the Blues a 2-0 win over the visiting Nashville Predators.
