1938: Boston’s Frankie Brimsek recorded his fourth straight road shutout in a 2-0 win over the Red Wings, at the Olympia in Detroit. It was also the fifth shutout in six games for the rookie goalie.
1938: Goaltender Mike Karakas recorded his 19th career shutout in the Black Hawks’ 5-0 win over the visiting New York Rangers.
1960: Former NHL center Bob Brooke born in Melrose, Mass. Brooke played in the NHL 1983-84 through 1989-90 with the New York Rangers, the Minnesota North Stars and New Jersey.
1971: Former NHL left winger Joe Dziedzic born in Minneapolis, MN. Dziedzic played in the NHL 1995-96 through 1998-99 with the Pittsburgh Penguins and Phoenix.
1980: Jim Korn scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Red Wings to a 5-3 win over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs.
1982: Rookie Phil Housley scored a goal and added two assists as the Sabres won 5-4 over the Nordiques in Quebec City.
2001: Los Angeles traded Brett Hauer to Nashville in exchange for Rich Brennan.
2007: Minnesota’s Jacques Lemaire became the first person to coach 1,000 NHL games after playing in more than 800 during his career as the Wild came back from a 2-0 third period deficit for a 3-2 win over the visiting Nashville Predators.
