1911: Former NHL goalie Mike Karakas born in Aurora, MN. Karakas played in the NHL 1935-36 through 1945-46 with Chicago and Montreal.
1914: Former NHL forward Rudy Ahlin born in Eveleth, MN. Ahlin played in the NHL 1937-38 with Chicago.
1915: The McNaughton Cup winning Saint Paul Athletic Club begins training at Lake Como in St. Paul, MN.
1938: Former NHL goalie Carl Wetzel born in Detroit, Mich. Wetzel played in the NHL 1964-65 through 1967-68 with Detroit and the Minnesota North Stars. He later served as assistant coach with the North Stars.
1952: Former NHL defenseman Lars Lindgren born in Pitea, Sweden. Lindgren played in the NHL 1978-79 through 1983-84 with Vancouver and the Minnesota North Stars.
1970: Minnesota goaltender Cesare Maniago recorded his 13th career shutout to lead the North Stars to a 1-0 win over the Penguins at Pittsburgh. Jude Drouin scored the only goal, in the final period.
1979: Steve Carlson scored two goals and an assist in first period to lead the Kings to a 7-4 win against Hartford.
1979: Tim Young scored twice and added an assist to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-4 win against the Capitals, at Washington.
1981: Rookie Neal Broten scored a goal and two assists to lead the North Stars to a 6-3 win over the Black Hawks in Minnesota.
1985: Goaltender Reggie Lemelin recorded his 4th career shutout in the Flames’ 5-0 win against the Kings, in Calgary. Jim Peplinski and rookie Joel Otto each scored two goals and an assist.
1989: Dave Gagner took 9 shots on goal for the Minnesota North Stars in a 4-2 loss vs Vancouver.
1992: L.A. Kings rookie goalie Robb Stauber ran his record to 9-0-1 (and his winning streak to a team-record tying seven straight) when the Kings beat the Blues, 6-3 at the Forum.
2002: Despite being outshot 38-23 by the Red Wings, Dwayne Roloson made 36 saves to lead the Wild to a 3-2 win at Detroit.
2002: Rickard Wallin became just the third rookie in Minnesota Wild history to score a goal in his NHL debut, in a 3-2 victory at Detroit.
2007: Mike Green scored at 3:41 of overtime and added two assists, and rookie Joe Motzko scored his first two goals of the season as the Capitals got their 4th victory in 5 games, 5-4 over the visiting New York Rangers.
