1913: Duluth Curling Club Opens in Duluth, MN.
1939: Former NHL goalie Cesare Maniago born in Trail, B.C. Maniago played in the NHL 1960-the Minnesota North Stars through 1977-78 with Toronto, Montreal, the New York Rangers, Minnesota and Vancouver.
1965: Former NHL defenseman Allen Pedersen born in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. Pedersen played in the NHL 1986-87 through 1993-94 with Boston, the Minnesota North Stars and Hartford.
1968: Oakland Seals Defenseman Larry Cahan and Ron Harris hit Bill Masterton at the Met Center with Masterton hitting his head resulting in his death 2 days later.
1973: Jude Drouin scored two goals and an assist, and Dennis Hextall had a goal and two assists in the Minnesota North Stars’ 8-1 win over the NY Islanders at the Met Center.
1978: Glen Sharpley scored a goal and added an assist to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 2-2 tie against the Washington Capitals at the Met Center.
1983: Murray Oliver took over as the Minnesota North Stars coach, replacing Glen Sonmor. It was the second time in a year that Oliver replaced Sonmor as North Stars coach.
1983: Minnesota’s Gilles Meloche recorded his 200th NHL career victory when the North Stars won 2-1 over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs. Meloche became the 25th NHL goaltender to get 200 wins.
1984: Dave Christian scored twice and added an assist as the Capitals won 6-4 over the Canucks at Vancouver.
1989: Minnesota’s Craig Hartsburg announced his retirement at age 29. He had been the North Stars’ captain for the previous six years.
1990: Minnesota’s Brian Bellows scored twice to give him 250 goals in his NHL career as the North Stars won 6-4 over the visiting Detroit Red Wings.
1990: Minnesota rookie Mike Modano scored a goal and added three assists in a 6-4 North Stars’ win over Detroit.
1997: Rookie Jamie Langenbrunner scored the winning goal as Dallas beat the Canadiens 2-1, to end a 10 game winless streak (0-8-2) at Montreal. Their previous win in Montreal had been Feb 1987, when the Stars’ franchise was located in Minnesota.
2001: Pittsburgh Penguins acquired left wing Steve McKenna from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for center Roman Simicek.
2008: Josh Harding made 26 saves as Minnesota beat the visiting Coyotes 6-3 for their seventh straight win over Phoenix.
2009: Minnesota’s Cal Clutterbuck had a goal and an assist to lead the Wild to a 6-3 win over the visiting Phoenix Coyotes.
2010: Niklas Backstrom became the Minnesota Wild’s all-time leader in goaltending victories when he picked up the 114th of his career, a 5-2 win over the visiting Vancouver Canucks; he broke the record of 113 wins held by Manny Fernandez.
