1965: Former NHL player Mike Peluso born in Pengilly, MN. Peluso played in the NHL 1989-90 through 1997-98 with Chicago, Ottawa, New Jersey, St. Louis and Calgary.
1967: Defenseman Bob Woytowich set a team record with three assists to lead the North Stars to a 5-1 win over the Blues in Minnesota.
1969: Bill Goldsworthy scored his first career NHL hat trick and J.P. Parise added three assists to lead the Minnesota North Stars to a 5-2 win over St. Louis at the Met Center.
1975: Former NHL defenseman Shane Hnidy born in Neepawa, Man. Hnidy played in the NHL 2000-01 through 2010-11 with Ottawa, Nashville, Atlanta, Anaheim, Boston, and the Minnesota Wild.
1978: Minnesota defenseman Gary Sargent scored a goal and added two assists to lead the North Stars to a 5-3 win over the Rangers at New York.
1981: Minnesota North Stars won beat the Bruins 4-1, to end their 35 game winless streak (0-28-7) in Boston since entering the NHL 14 years earlier.
1984: Glen Sonmor took over as the Minnesota North Stars head coach, replacing Bill Mahoney. It was Sonmor’s third tour of duty as North Stars’ coach.
1985: Reed Larson scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Red Wings to a 3-3 tie against the Maple Leafs, in Detroit.
1989: Pierre Turgeon and Phil Housley each scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Sabres to a 6-3 win against the Whalers, at Hartford.
1992: San Jose’s Doug Zmolek set a team rookie reccord with 24 penalty minutes in an 11-4 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Kings.
1997: Washington’s Phil Housley picked up an assist to become the 5th defenseman (and second American-born player) in NHL history to score 1,000 career points, as the Capitals won 2-1 over the visiting Edmonton Oilers.
1998: John Mayasich #8 jersey was retired by the Univerisity of Minnesota Gophers Mens hockey team on this date in a pre-game ceremony. Mayasichs jersey is the only retired player to bestow this honor by the University.
2001: Despite being outshot 56-16 by the Bruins, Minnesota Wild goaltender Dwayne Roloson made a team-record 53 saves and Andrew Brunette tied a team record with four points (two goals and two assists) in a 5-3 victory at Boston.
2005: Curtis Joseph made 26 saves to move into a tie for 8th place on the NHL’s career win list and Keith Ballard had two assists in his first regular-season game in his home state, a 4-2 Phoenix victory against the Wild at Minnesota.
2010: Hockey Hall of Fame inducted it’s newest members: Dino Ciccarelli, Cammi Granato, Angela James as Players, Jimmy Devallano and Daryl ‘Doc’ Seman as Builders.
2011: Niklas Backstrom made 41 saves for his 23rd career shutout as the Wild beat the Flames 3-0 in Calgary.
